How to Tie a Short Winter Scarf

How to Tie a Short Winter Scarf thumbnail
Scarves are versatile.

Scarves make a fashion statement, accessorize your coat or jacket, and help to keep you warm. While you can achieve some glamorous looks with long scarves that can also serve as shawls, short scarves get the job done and are small enough to stuff in a coat pocket or large handbag when you remove them. You can also tie them around the handle of your handbag at its base near the top of the bag to create a nice look and keep track of your scarf at the same time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Fold the scarf in half lengthwise and drape it around your neck so that it hangs on your chest with one side about six inches longer than the other.

    • 2

Grasp the ends, one in each hand, and lay the longer end over the shorter end so that they form an "X" on your chest.

    • 3

Pull the long piece up, behind the short piece, and let it fall over the top of the short piece, just as if you were tying two shoelaces. Pull the two ends around your neck as tightly as you would like to wear the scarf.

Arrange the lengths so that the long one, which is now on top, lies flatly on top of the short one, ascot style. They will both appear to be about the same length, but you can adjust it so that one is longer than the other if you want. Use a scarf pin to hold the arrangement in place or simply tuck the ends into your coat, which may give you added warmth.
