Turn your bottle cap collection into a stylish belt.

If you've been saving bottle caps and you're not sure what to do with your growing collection, turn a few of them into a simple and stylish bottle cap belt. Not only will your bottle cap belt be one of a kind, but you can feel good about keeping the bottle caps from piling up in the landfill. Make a bottle cap belt in your spare time, using a few inexpensive jewelry and craft supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure around your waist with a measuring tape. Lay the measuring tape on a table, and place your bottle caps next to it to be sure you have enough caps to make the belt. Arrange the caps to your liking. Use all one color, or devise a color scheme with different colored caps.

    • 2

Place the bottle caps on a solid surface or in a small craft vise. Poke two holes in each bottle cap, using a small drill bit or an ice pick. The holes should be equal distance apart.

    • 3

Use sandpaper to smooth out the rough edges created by the holes.

    • 4

Open a 1/2-inch metal chain link and use it to join two bottle caps. Close the chain link, and secure the closure with a drop of hot glue. Continue joining all the bottle caps together using chain links. When the bottle caps are all joined, attach two chain links to each end of the belt.

    • 5

Attach a large metal ring or belt buckle to the chain links on one side of the belt. The belt clasp or buckle will hook into the two metal chain links on the other end of the belt.

Tips & Warnings

  • Leather boot laces can be substituted for the metal chain links. Use long laces, and thread the laces through the holes in the bottle caps. Instead of attaching a belt buckle or clasp, simply tie the boot laces.
