How to Change Date Settings in Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook is one of the most popular email applications in use today. It includes a calendar function that allows the user to create appointments and reminders. You can control the format of these items through the Outlook Tools menu.

  • From within Outlook, select the "Tools" menu.

  • From the Tools menu, select the "Options..." submenu.

  • From the Options screen, select the "Preferences" tab.

  • On the Preferences tab, from within the Calendar section select "Calendar Options." The Calendar Options screen provides you with the capability to format the look and feel of your Outlook calendar.

  • Under the Calendar workweek section, select the day of the week that you want your Calendar workweek to start.

  • Under the Calendar workweek section, select the time you want your calendar day to begin in the "Start time:" box, and the time you want it to finish in the "End time:" box. The drop-down lists for these boxes list time in 30-minute increments, or you can type the exact time in the box.

  • Under the Calendar workweek section, select when you want the Calendar year to begin in the "First week of year:" box. The options are "Starts on Jan 1," "First 4-day week" and "First full week."

  • Click "OK," and click "OK" again to save your new Calendar preferences.

Tips & Warnings

  • No matter what you enter as the start and end times of your Calendar workday, you can still schedule appointments and reminders for any time of the day, either before the start or after the end of the day, using the meeting start time and meeting end time settings.
