How to Dispose of Canola Oil

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. Canola oil can clog sewer systems, not just in your home, but in your whole neighborhood. Not to worry. It is possible to discard canola oil in safe, environmentally friendly ways. Some states will even help you recycle canola oil, so don't be afraid to keep on cooking with it. Does this Spark an idea?

2
Place kitty litter in a double-thickness of plastic trash bags. Pour used canola oil over the kitty litter, and let it sink in to form a thick mud. Tie the bags closed securely, and discard them with the rest of your trash.

Top off your regular bagged trash with handfuls of used paper towels and shredded paper---those marketing circulars work great. Pour small amounts of canola oil over the shredded paper and then seal up the bag. The paper will absorb the oil.

Do not pour your canola oil down the bathtub or toilet. Those pipes clog just as easily as the ones leading from your sink.
