How to Make Crosses Out of Trash Bags
If you are looking for a unique, waterproof yard decoration for Easter or other Christian celebrations, make an inexpensive cross out of dowel rods and plastic pastel bathroom trash bags. Make just one cross to stick in your flower garden, or make several crosses to line a walkway or driveway. Seeing beautiful plastic trash bag crosses as yard decorations, your neighbors and dinner guests will have to smile at your thrift and ingenuity.
Things You'll Need
- 2-foot dowel rod (1/2-inch diameter)
- 4-foot dowel rod (1/2-inch diameter)
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Plastic pastel bathroom trash bags
- Clear tape

Form a cross out of two 1/2-inch diameter dowel rods, with the 4-foot rod being vertical and the 2-foot rod horizontally forming the cross. Tightly wrap yarn around the intersection of the two dowel rods. Wrap four or five times. Knot securely.

Tape the end of an unopened bathroom trash bag to one end of the horizontal dowel rod. To secure, wind the tape around the end of the dowel rod a couple of times. Loosely wrap the trash bag around approximately 6 inches of the dowel rod. Tape the remaining end.

Add another trash bag, starting from the last taped area. Continue wrapping and taping additional trash bags until the entire horizontal dowel rod is covered. Repeat with the vertical dowel rod, leaving approximately 4 inches unwrapped at the bottom (for placing into the ground).
