How to Troubleshoot "Grand Theft Auto Vice City"
"Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" is a spin-off from the hugely popular PC and PlayStation game, "Grand Theft Auto 3." The game takes the series' crime-story milieu back in time to the 1980s, in a vivid pastel-hued fantasy reminiscent of Scarface or Miami Vice. The game was released on PC as well as consoles of the time. While running the console versions is as easy as inserting the disc and booting the machine, running the PC version may sometimes require a little troubleshooting to get the game working correctly.

1
Check that you have sufficient hard drive space to run "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City." The game requires around 1 GB (gigabyte) of hard drive space before installation. To check your hard drive's space, open "My Computer" and hover the mouse over the drive you will be installing "Vice City" onto. If necessary, delete unused files or programs to make room for the game before installing.

2
Defragment your hard drive. "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" runs best on a recently defragmented hard drive. To defragment your drive, open the "Start" menu and choose "Programs." 3
Check your video card. "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" requires at least a 32MB (megabyte) memory card to run. If your video card does not meet this specification, the game will not launch. To check your video card, right-click on Windows' Desktop and select "Properties." Open the "Settings" tab. Your video card is listed in the "Display" field.
-
4
Update your video card's drivers. If you are experiencing visual problems with "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City," visit the website for the manufacturer of your video card. Download an installer for the latest drivers for your card from the "Support" or "Downloads" section and run the downloaded file to install these drivers on your computer.

5
Close all other applications when running "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City." The game is designed to be run as a standalone application, and will not perform to its highest standard if other programs are running either in background or alongside the game.
-
6
Reduce screen resolution. If your game of "Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" is running slowly, open the game's "Options" menu and select "Display Setup." Choose a low screen resolution and switch to "16 bit color" to reduce graphical performance, increasing game speed.
