How to Change a Tire on a Fiat 124

The Fiat 124 was an Italian made mid-sized car that was produced between 1966 and 1974. The 124 is one of the most widely sold cars throughout Europe and has become the model used for the Russian produced Lada vehicle. If you own a Fiat 124, the original car was sold with a comprehensive utility kit that includes a small jack and tire removal tool for you to use if you need to change a tire on your automobile.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Fiat into gear and park it on a flat surface. Locate your car jack, tire removal tool (or tire iron) and car jack. The spare tire for a Fiat 124 is located in the car's trunk under the spare tire cover.

    • 2

Remove the spare tire from the trunk and set it to the side of your vehicle.

    • 3

Remove the tire's hubcap by prying around the rim of the cap with a flat head screwdriver and set it to the side.

    • 4

Use the lug nut removal tool to loosen the lug nuts of the tire requiring changing. To do so, place the end that is shaped to fit the lug nut over the nut and turn counterclockwise to loosen. Next, loosen the nut that is across the tire from the first one you loosened, and repeat this pattern until all are hand tight.

    • 5

Place the jack under the frame of the car body next to the flat tire. Turn the hand crank on the car jack until the car tire is raised off of the ground. You will need only approximately one inch clearance to remove the Fiat 124's tire.

    • 6

Remove the tire lug nuts completely and set them to the side.

    • 7

Take the flat tire off and set it aside. Lift the new or spare tire onto the wheel studs. The tire's air valve should be pointed away from the tire.

    • 8

Fasten the tire lug nuts to the tire in reverse order that they were removed until they are hand tight. Do not attempt to fully tighten the lug nuts when the car is raised on the jack.

    • 9

Lower the car with the tire jack by cranking in the opposite direction that you used to raise the car and use the lug nut removal tool to finish tightening the nuts. Replace the tire's hubcap to complete the tire change-out.
