How to Get Better FPS in Counter-Strike

Having low FPS can mean the difference between life and death in a video game such as "Counter-Strike." FPS is defined as the "frames per second" your computer monitor displays. Think of a single "frame" as a nonmoving picture of what is happening. If your computer monitor displays 60 frames per second, this means that for every one second that passes, your computer monitor shows you 60 pictures. With higher FPS, game play runs smoother and you can see and react to game events much more quickly than someone who has a lower setting.

Instructions

    • 1

Open "Counter-Strike" and press the accent--" ` "--key on your keyboard. The accent is usually located to the left of the "1" on a standard keyboard. This will bring up a console that looks like a square or rectangular box with a place to enter text at the bottom.

    • 2

Type in the command "fps_max 101" and hit "Enter." This sets your FPS to 101, which is the recommended setting for the game. Enter a higher value if you want to. If you changed your setting to 101, you should see "fps_max 101" appear in the box after you hit "Enter."

    • 3

Close the console by clicking the exit button on the top right. It is marked with an "X."

    • 4

      Restart "Counter-Strike."

    • 5

Open the console again by hitting the accent key.

    • 6

Type in the command "net_graph 3" and hit "Enter." This command displays your current FPS at the bottom right of your screen. If you have done everything correctly, your FPS should now be running at the value you set in Step 3.
