The amount of bleach you need is directly related to the amount of water in the pool Determine exactly how many gallons of water are in your swimming pool. This is important when adding and maintaining chemicals to maintain a healthy swimming environment. Use one half-gallon of non-scented chlorine bleach to every 10,000 gallons of water.

Use a chlorine test kit to determine whether or not to add more bleach Use a pool test kit to determine the chlorine level in the water. According to the Chlorine Chemistry division of the American Chemistry Council, the ideal range of chlorination should be between 2.0 and 4.0 ppm
