How to Use Cornstarch Before Embossing Powder

An application of cornstarch can make the task of applying embossing powder more precise, giving a cleaner appearance to your paper craft projects by preventing the embossing powder from adhering to fingerprints or areas of static on the paper. In a few simple steps, you can create a simple pouch to make applying cornstarch to your projects easy and mess-free.

Things You'll Need

• Small, fine-woven sock or knit glove
• Scissors
• Cornstarch
• Rubber band
• Ribbon (optional)
• Paper or card stock

Instructions

1. 

   Small sock

   Select a knit mitten or small sock with a fine enough weave to allow cornstarch to shake out very lightly when filled. This will become your cornstarch applicator pouch.

2. 

   Rubber bands

   Scoop cornstarch into the pouch, leaving room to tie the end closed. Twist the rubber band tightly around the end of the pouch to keep it closed. If desired, tie a ribbon over the rubber band for a more decorative appearance.

3. 

   Craft paper

   Hold the cornstarch pouch by the tied end, and tap it lightly on the paper or card stock to which you intend to apply embossing powder. As the cornstarch begins to shake out of the pouch, rub it gently over the paper.

4. Wipe away any excess cornstarch with a soft, clean cloth once you have finished embossing your project and it has had time to set up.

• Store your cornstarch applicator pouch in a plastic resealable bag when not in use.
