How Can I Download Drivers on a Computer?

Download drivers onto your computer.

Computer drivers are small files that help the computer's operating system communicate with the hardware devices connected to the machine. Whenever you install a new device in your computer, you can download drivers for the device by using the Windows Update utility. This is helpful if you can't download the drivers from any other location or if you want to check for new driver updates for devices that are already installed.

Instructions

1. Click the "Start" button, click on "All Programs" and then click on "Windows Update."

2. Click the "Check for updates" link on the left side of the window.

3. Click "View available updates" and then click on the Drivers section.

4. Click the check box next to any updates you wish to download and then click the "Install" button to install them on your computer.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't find a driver for your device using "Windows Update," you may be able to download one manually from the manufacturer's website. Use the site's search field to search for the name of your device and the word "driver," or look for a section of the website labeled "Downloads" or "Drivers."
