Chain 25. Single crochet in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across, for a total of 24 single crochet stitches.

    • 2

Chain one and turn. Single crochet in each stitch across for a total of 24 single crochet stitches. Repeat this row until the length is the same measurement as the width, creating a square. Finish off and cut the yarn. This is one side of your pot holder.

    • 3

Crochet another square the same way, crocheting the same amount of rows to create a square. Do not finish off or cut the yarn.

    • 4

Place the two pot holder squares together, matching the edges. Chain one and turn. Insert the hook through the first single crochet stitch on the top square and through the first single crochet stitch on the bottom square. Crochet a single crochet stitch to attach the two squares together. Repeat in each stitch of the row.

    • 5

Crochet three single crochet stitches in the corner. Crochet the ends of the rows together, with one stitch per row. Continue around the pot holder, with three single crochet stitches in each corner except the beginning corner. Slip stitch to the beginning chain one.

    • 6

Chain nine. Insert the hook through the base of the chain nine. Finish off and cut the yarn. This is the hanging loop of your basic crocheted pot holder.
