Instructions

1. Multiply the number of miles you want to calculate by 5280 to determine the number of feet in the distance; for example: 4.5 X 5280 = 23,760

2. Calculate the number of yards in the distance. Since there are 3 feet in a yard, divide the total number of feet in step one by three; for example: 23,760 / 3 = 7920. So, in the example of 4.5 miles, there are 7920 yards.

3. Use an alternate equation to determine the number of yards if you prefer. There are 1760 yards in a single mile. Multiply the number of miles by 1760 to calculate the distance in yards; for example: 4.5 x 1760 = 7290
