How to Uninstall AOL Programs

AOL software is a package suite that includes programs such as AIM, email, a Web browser and more. If you are no longer using any of these AOL programs, you can uninstall them safely from your computer and free up system resources such as hard disk space and memory. Using the built-in uninstaller on your computer, safely uninstall AOL programs from your computer using simple guidelines.

      Close any AOL program that you are using, click the Windows "Start" button, and then click the "Control Panel." Double click "Add or Remove Programs" if you are using Windows XP to launch the programs window. Click "Programs," and then click "Programs and Features" to launch the programs window if you are using Windows Vista or 7.

      Scroll through the programs window and click "AOL Uninstaller." Click "Remove/Uninstall" to launch the uninstall wizard. The uninstaller searches for AOL programs installed on your computer. Select the version of AOL software that you want to remove, and then click "Uninstall." Click the "Search for older versions of AOL" if you do not see the version of AOL software that you want to uninstall. Select the "Downloaded Files" and "Personal Filing Cabinet" checkboxes if you are using AOL 8.0 or below and have downloaded files or saved email in your Personal Filing Cabinet you wish to keep.

      Click "Yes" to confirm, and uninstall the AOL programs. When the process completes, restart your computer.
