How to Make Jeans Into a Mini Skirt
When you have an old pair of jeans that are starting to rip and tear, it may be time to recycle them. You may think that your only option is to turn your jeans into cut-off shorts; however, you can instead turn your favorite pair of old jeans into a stylish miniskirt with a few tools and a little time.
Things You'll Need
- Fabric pencil
- Scissors
- Straight pins
- Ruler
- Needle and thread or a sewing machine
- Hemming tape

1
Put on your jeans. Make a mark with the fabric pencil on the jeans where you want your miniskirt to end.
-
2
Cut your jeans so that they are 1/2-inch longer than the mark on the denim. This 1/2 inch will be used for a hem on your mini.

3
Cut through the inseam on each of the pant legs. Turn your jeans inside out and try them on.
-
4
Pull the two pieces of material in the front together and pin them together with straight pins. Follow the seam so that your straight pins form a straight line. Turn the skirt over and repeat this process with the pieces of material in back.
-
5
Take off the skirt. Draw a straight line (using a ruler) down the seam where you have placed the straight pins. You should have at least a 1/4-inch overlap of fabric for the seam.
-
6
Sew the new seam in the front of the skirt. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 with the back of the skirt.
-
7
Fold up the bottom of the skirt 1/2 inch and hem it, using hemming tape or your sewing machine. Turn your miniskirt right side out; it's now ready to wear.
