Access the Internet through satellite Internet.

Although dial-up and DSL are most often thought of as the main ways to connect your laptop computer to the Internet, access is also possible through a satellite Internet service. The service, not provided by all satellite TV carriers, differs from standard satellite television, so you may need to go through a different provider. With the satellite service installed you can begin using it to access the web with your laptop computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the TV service's coaxial cable, running from the satellite dish into the room in which the television is located, and insert it into the "In" port on the cable modem. This modem is similar to one you use for cable and DSL Internet.

    • 2

Plug the Ethernet cable into one of the numbered "Out" ports found alongside the back of the modem. It does not matter which out port you chose (typically there are up to four).

    • 3

Insert the opposite end of the Ethernet cable into the "WAN" port on your laptop. Once the cable is properly inserted and the modem turned on a light appears on the side of your laptop. When the light appears you know you have a secure connection.

Double-click the Internet browser on your computer and you can begin accessing the Internet through your laptop computer.
