How to Unlock Your LG CG225 Cell Phone

If you want to change the network of your LG CG225, you will have to swap out the carrier-specific chip inside the battery compartment. If you bought the CG225 locked, the phone will not allow calls through with a different network’s chip inside. This is a software issue separate from contractual obligations you may have to fulfill with the original carrier. To unlock your CG225, you need an unlock code.

Instructions

  1. Pay Sites

    • 1

Open the LG CG225 page at Mobile Unlocked, Unlocking, GSM Unlock International, Unlock It Now or Cell Corner (see Resources.) All five are pay sites. Some offer offer money-back guarantees. Most allow you to pay with PayPal in case you don’t use a credit card.

    • 2

Remove the CG225’s battery. The site you selected will prompt you for your International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number. You’ll find it under the battery. Pay for the code and you’ll receive it in your email within a few hours.

    • 3

Insert your original carrier’s chip under the battery, in case the unlock code needs it to work. (For example, the codes at Cell Corner are network specific.) Put back the battery so you have power for the next step.

    • 4

Enter your CG225’s phone mode. Enter the code into your keypad as it appears in the email. If you received the unlock code “A5976J Send” for example, type in 259765 and then “send” the code to your CG225 by pressing the Call/Talk/Send button.

    • 5

Slot the new carrier’s chip into the battery compartment. Test if the carrier lock is now gone by making an outgoing call. If it goes through, you’re done. Otherwise, re-enter the code. If repeated efforts won’t work, contact the site who sent you the code so they can remedy the situation.

    Free Code from Original Network

    • 6

Call your original network’s customer service number or go to a local branch. Call on a different phone so you can read the IMEI off your CG225, enter the unlock code and make a test call while you're speaking to the representative.

    • 7

Ask for a unlock code and read off the IMEI from inside your CG225. Slot the old network’s chip under the CG225’s battery. Put the battery back in.

    • 8

Enter the code the representative gives you. Switch in the new network’s chip. Test the code with an outgoing call on the CG225. Keep the representative on the line until your outgoing call goes through.

    • 9

Call customer service again if the first representative was no help. Some representatives are more cooperative or knowledgeable than others. Some may not want to help you leave for a competitor.
