How to Make Dirt Modified RC Cars
Radio controlled cars can be driven on asphalt or on a dirt track. Some modifications may be needed for these cars to function on dirt, including changing the body and tires and protecting the internal components. Modifying a radio controlled car for dirt racing can be time-consuming because the modifications take precision. But once the car is modified, it's ready to race on any dirt track.

1
Remove the body from the car and note every part that is sensitive to dirt and dust. This might include the electronic receiver or gas tank lid.
-
2
Place plastic sheets over the sensitive parts of the interior and secure the plastic to the body with electrical tape. Create a tight seal around the parts. The plastic should only be placed on parts that do not get extremely hot, such as the electronic receiver, but not the engine.

3
Remove the stock wheels with the wheel wrench. Stock wheels are normally made for both asphalt and dirt driving, depending on the car.
-
4
Place dirt wheels on the car. They will be wider and have thicker treads, allowing the car to gain more grip on dirt. Dirt wheels that have less tread and are narrow are normally used for oval dirt racing, where cars are designed to slide around the track.
-
5
Put the body back on the car. The body will prevent most of the dirt from getting to the internal components. Use electrical tape to close off the opening between the body and the chassis.
