How to Get People to Advertise on Your Site
As the Internet has grown and developed, the concept of creating a website to highlight a personal interest, hobby or point of view has expanded to finding ways to "monetize" the site, meaning that the website will earn money. Monetizing a website can take a number of forms, but one popular strategy involves getting people to advertise on the site. The website owner then keeps a percentage of the sales or simply charges the advertiser to place his advertisement on the site.

1
Create a popular website with updated content, good graphics and fresh information that a web surfer won't find on many other sites. Keep the website's content focused and clear.
-
2
Maximize traffic to the site with search engine optimization techniques. SEO involves pushing the website up in the search engine listings so web surfers will see it as one of their first choices when they search for the website's specific topic. Some SEO techniques include creating as many links to the site as possible (crosslink pages on the site and trade links with other owners of websites with similar content) and posting the website's URL on forums and social network groups where people might surf to the site.

-
3
Design the website's template so it will attract advertisers: Show them that their banner, text or links will have a prominent place on the site.
-
4
Install advertiser software to rotate banners and track statistics. Advertisers will want feedback about the success of their ads in order to decide whether to place more ads on the website.
-
5
Create a page on the site specifically for potential advertisers with basic information, such as website details, target audience, traffic statistics and other information that might be of interest to potential advertisers. Link to that page from the navigation bar ("Advertisers"). Write up a form letter for potential advertisers to inquire about advertising with basic information (cost, banner placement, terms, graphics needed, etc).
-
6
Notify potential advertisers by contacting existing contacts, including sites that crosslink to the site, people who leave comments on the site's forum or social networking contacts. Contact companies that advertise a similar product or service through GoogleAdwords, AdBrite, Text-Link-Ads, BlogAds, SponsoredReviews or other advertising networks. Look at similar sites to see which advertisers place ads on those sites and contact those companies.
-
7
Charge near the low end of the advertising scale when beginning to accept advertising. Show flexibility by allowing advertisers to test the advertisement for a period of time, change their advertisement or move it to different points on the website.
-
8
Write up a contract between the website owner and the advertiser that spells out all terms of the agreement. Ask an attorney for help in composing the contract. Set up a PayPal account to accept payments from advertisers.
