How to Build a Steel BMX Bike Ramp
Building your own BMX ramp is a great project for the BMX enthusiast that your family and friends can help on. Depending on your expertise with welding and metal work, this project should take about four hours. The finished project will last like it's steel and will be much more sturdier than wood.
Things You'll Need
- Wire welder (TIG)
- Welding hoves
- Welding helmet
- 22 feet of square steel tubing, 2 inch
- Plasma cutter or hacksaw
- Thin sheet metal (thickness depends on how much you want to spend), 2 feet by 4 feet
Instructions

Positioning and Welding
-
1
Cut off two 3-foot-long pieces of steel square tubing and two 2-foot-long pieces of steel square tubing. These will create the base foundation L-shape for the ramp. Weld these together in an L shape. The longer 3-foot-long side will be the bottom of the ramp, and the 2-foot-long will serve as the height of the ramp. Repeat this step to create two L-shaped foundations.

2
Cut two 2-foot-long square metal tubes. These tubes will be used to connect the L-shaped foundation. The tube belongs on the ground connecting the L-shape foundation together at the corner intersection of the L. The second tube belongs at the top of height of the ramp. Weld the second 2-foot-long tube to the top to secure a good foundation for both L-shapes to be welded together.

3
Cut off the last of the square tubing, which should be two 4-foot-long tubes. These act at the angle of the ramp which will be welded both at the bottom on the long edge of the L-shape foundation and at the top.
-
4
Weld the 2 feet-by-4 feet thin sheet metal to the foundation you have just built on the angle. This sheet metal will be what you're riding on for the ramp.

Tips & Warnings
Welding is a tough job, and should be done by a professional or an adult. Make sure you have all of the proper equipment before you start any welding job.
