How to Restore iTunes on Windows XP
If you're experiencing frequent crashes or program lock-ups while running iTunes on your Windows XP PC, an uninstallation of the iTunes program and a re-install may remedy the problem. Alternative solutions of restoring iTunes on your PC include checking for software updates, which may fix any bugs or software conflicts with your computer. Software updates can be downloaded directly from the iTunes program, and a full version of the latest version can be downloaded directly from the Apple website.

Check iTunes for Software Update

Open iTunes by clicking "Start" on the taskbar, and click "All Programs," "Apple" and "iTunes" to run the program.

Click "Help" at the top of the iTunes menu, and select "Check for Update" from the drop-down menu.

Select the "Update Now" button on the dialog box if a software update is available for your iTunes program.

Click "Next" on the installation wizard and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest iTunes update.
Uninstall and Re-install iTunes

Click "Start" on the taskbar and select "Control Panel" from the pop-up menu.

Double-click the "Add or Remove Programs" link in the Control Panel window, and click the "Change/Remove" button on the iTunes tab in the Programs list. According to Apple, you must uninstall the program in the following order: iTunes, Quicktime, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, Bonjour and Apple Application Support.

Select the "Next" button in the uninstallation wizard and click "Finish" to complete the uninstallation.

Open your Internet browser and go to the Apple website. Click the iTunes tab, click the "Download iTunes" button and save the program to your desktop.

Double-click the program file on your desktop and follow the on-screen instructions in the installation wizard to complete the setup.
