How to Repair an XBox 360 Wireless Controller
There can be many reasons why an Xbox 360 wireless controller isn't functioning properly. One easily repairable problem is a connection issue with the console. Another problem easily fixed is when the controller does not vibrate during gameplay.

Repairing Connection Problems

Unplug all of the controllers and headsets from the console, if the controller with the problem has four flashing green lights. This indicates that four controllers may already be connected to the console.

Press and hold the Xbox guide button on a wireless controller for three seconds. You can then turn the controller off. Turn off a wireless headset, with the switch, to disconnect it from the Xbox.

Unplug the cable from the console to disconnect a wired controller or headset.

Connect the controller with the problem to the Xbox and see if it will connect and function properly.

Check the batteries in the controller to see if they are no longer powering the device.
Checking the Batteries

Remove the AA batteries from the controller and insert new AA batteries and see if the controller will connect to the Xbox.

Remove the battery pack if the wireless remote has a rechargeable battery pack and then reconnect it to the wireless controller.

Press the Xbox guide button to display the battery meter. The Xbox guide button is the large, round button with the green "X" in the center. If the controller still does not connect, it may be damaged and require a replacement.
Repairing Vibration Problems

Point the wireless controller at the Xbox console and press the "Guide" button.

Select the "Preferences" option from the "Settings" menu. Verify that the "Enable Vibration" option is selected.

Test the controller to see if the vibration option is working.

Connect to Xbox Live and see if you are prompted to update the software for your console. A software upgrade may be available to correct a vibration problem with the wireless controller.

The battery meter will display the strength level of the battery.
Contact Xbox Support to replace the wireless controller if it fails to connect to the Xbox.
The controller will not work properly if there are any objects that are between the controller and the console.
