Get rid of your old remotes instead for an iPod remote.

You can turn your iPod Touch into a fully-functional universal remote, controlling virtually any infrared device. Now, you can get rid of all of your remote controls and replace them with a single, easy to use device. The IRB1 is an aftermarket device that simply plugs into your iPod Touch's Dock Connector. No additional batteries or wires are required, and once your iPod Touch is set up, you can even use the iPod Touch as a universal remote control without being connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Wait for delivery of the IRB1 device. Once it arrives, open the package and simply connect the IRB1 device to your iPod Touch's Dock Connector located on the bottom center of your iPod.

Open the App Store by pressing the corresponding icon on your iPod Touch screen. You need to be connected to a Wi-Fi network to complete this step. Press the "Search" icon on the bottom of your display and type 'I Got Control" in the search bar on the top of your iPod Touch's screen. Select the i-Got-Control application and install.

Select the new i-Got-Control icon from your iPod Touch's display. Press "ADD" in the upper-right corner of the application. Select the type of device you want to add using the selection wheel on the left, the brand of device using the center selection wheel and the IR code library for your device on the right selection wheel. You will need to perform a test to determine which IR code is correct for your device. Press "Test Power" to test an IR code until you find the code that works with your device. Your device will turn on or off when the correct IR code is selected. If the first IR code does not work for your device, select the next code and repeat until your device is found. Repeat this step for each device you want to control using your iPod Touch.

Select your saved device. You can now fully control your device with your iPod Touch. To select a different device, press the "Home" button on the top of the display.
