Instructions

    • 1

Close the shower drain and cover it with a cloth or towel. When increasing hot water to a shower, there is a potential for removed parts to accidentally fall into the drain. Placing a towel over the drain ensures nothing can be lost in the process.

    • 2

Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the center piece of the shower faucet handle. Pry it off gently, working your way around the center piece if there is resistance. Do not force this component off. If it breaks while removing it, chances are slim you will be able to replace the single piece and may need to buy a whole new handle.

    • 3

Remove the screw in the center, using a counterclockwise motion. Place the screw with the center piece of the handle in a safe location.

    • 4

Remove the handle. If it is difficult to remove, see if there is a small hole or opening on the underside. You may have to use a small screwdriver to loosen and remove the handle. Once the handle is removed, a piece resembling a gear becomes visible.

    • 5

Rotate the gear in a counterclockwise direction to increase the hot water that gets to your shower head. In some cases, the gear may need to be pulled out slightly in order to turn it.

    • 6

Replace the handle, screw and cap to return the handle to original working condition.
