1
Pick a tree. During Mardi Gras season, many Christmas trees are given new life as Mardi Gras trees because of their size and stature. You can also use sturdy plants that you already have around the house or purchased from a store.
-
2
Choose a color and design scheme. Mardi Gras colors are bold and bright, such as red, gold, green, purple and yellow. Make sure the colors match.

3
Decorate the tree. Start from the bottom of the tree and work your way up. Use Mardi Gras beads, peacock features, masquerade masks, tassels and other common decorations of the season. You can also use homemade crafts to decorate the tree, such as construction paper cutouts of Mardi Gras designs and emblems. Cover each side of the tree evenly with the decorations.

Choose a display location. Place your tree in a central location of the house so everyone can see it. Passersby can see the tree if you place it in front of a window.

Tips & Warnings
Use clear Christmas lights on your Mardi Gras tree to showcase the colors of Mardi Gras season.
Sketch out a design for the Mardi Gras tree and execute the pattern when you start decorating the tree. A design helps you create a well thought out vision for the tree.
Recycle Mardi Gras throws that you've caught at a parade to decorate the tree, such as beads, cups and coins.
Never leave your tree unattended with the lights on because the tree can catch fire.
Never display your tree near an open flame, such as a fireplace. Natural and artificial trees are highly flammable.
Using lights and decorations that are commonly used during the Christmas season will not work on a Mardi Gras tree. Christmas lights will have your tree lacking creativity, and the colors will not match with the Mardi Gras decorations that you have used.
