Add ribbon to spruce up your Christmas tree.

For many people, decorating the tree is one of the most enjoyable events of the Christmas season. Lights, ornaments and a tree topper are a few of the basic Christmas tree decorations. Personalize and add to the beauty of your tree by draping ribbon on it. Whether your tree is artificial or real, wrapping ribbon around the tree will make it stand out. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the right kind of Christmas tree ribbon. Several types of ribbon are sold, especially during the Christmas season. Select a ribbon with wire in it to make hanging the ribbon easier.

    • 2

Begin hanging the ribbon at the top of the tree. Start at the back in an inconspicuous spot.

    • 3

Wrap the end piece from a roll of ribbon around a back tree branch two or three times to make sure that it is held securely in place.

    • 4

Hold the roll of ribbon with both hands. Wrap it loosely around the tree, working in a spiral motion toward the bottom of the tree. Make sure that each row is evenly spaced as you spiral down the tree, although the distance between each row of ribbon is a matter of preference.

    • 5

Secure the end of the ribbon around a branch by wrapping it two or three times. If one roll of ribbon was not sufficient to drape the entire tree, pick up where you left off using a new roll of ribbon, wrapping its end piece around the branch where you finished the first roll. Secure the final piece of ribbon by wrapping the end piece around a branch.

Tips & Warnings

  • As a general guideline, the amount of ribbon needed for Christmas trees is as follows: 40 to 55 feet of ribbon for a 4- to 5-foot tree; 70 to 75 feet of ribbon for a 6- to 6 1/2-foot tree; 84 to 98 feet of ribbon for a 7- to 7 1/2-foot tree; 120 to 150 feet of ribbon for an 8- to 9-foot tree.
