How to Identify the Three Main Characteristics of Seed Plants
The three main characteristics of seed plants are vascular tissue, seed reproduction and common body parts. As millions of different plant species exist, so do many variations of these physical properties. All are easily identifiable, however, if you know what characteristics to look for. A seed plant stem Look for relatively thick, firm stems holding the plant upright which indicate vascular tissue. Know that vascular tissue is responsible for the delivery of nutrients to plant cells for growth.

Examine the plant for any sign of seeds--which would be covered by a protective layer called the seed coat. Keep in mind that seeds disperse when the plant has matured to the point of germination.

Ensure that a stem, root networks and leaves are present. Note that these properties vary by plant species, but that they should all be a shade of green in their healthy state.
