How to Convert a PowerPoint Slide Show to PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint presentations are sometimes saved as slide shows, with the extension .pps rather than the native .ppt extension. When presenting, it appears more professional to open a .pps because it auto-launches in "show" mode rather than opening a .ppt--which shows all the slides and the work behind them--and then selecting "slide show" mode. But slide show files cannot be edited. Fortunately, it is a simple process to convert a PowerPoint slide show to PowerPoint.

Instructions

1. Save the PowerPoint slide show (.pps) file you wish to convert on your computer in a location you will remember.

2. Launch Microsoft PowerPoint.

3. Click "File" and then "Open" to navigate to the location where your .pps file is stored.

4. Double-click the .pps file to open it.

5. Click "File" and then "Save As." Click "Save as Type" and choose "PowerPoint Presentation" from the drop-down menu.

6. Click "Save." Your .pps file is now a .ppt file and ready to edit.
