How to Remove eFax Messenger

EFax Messenger is an application that enables you to send electronic fax messages to any fax numbers. However, if you are not using the application or using another fax application, you can remove eFax Messenger from your computer safely without interfering with other applications. Removing eFax and its associate files frees up system resources including hard disk space and memory.

Instructions

1. Click the Windows "Start" button and click the "Control Panel." Double-click "Add or Remove Programs" to launch the programs window if you are using Windows XP. For Windows Vista and 7 users, launch the programs window by clicking "Programs" and clicking "Programs and Features."

2. Scroll through the programs window, click "eFax Messenger" and click "Remove/Uninstall" to uninstall the application from your computer. If prompted, do not restart your computer.

3. Click the Windows "Start" button, select "Programs" or "All Programs." Locate the eFax folder, right-click it, and then click "Delete." Delete the eFax folder from the desktop if it still exists.

4. Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Search" to launch the search tool. Select "All Files and Folders" and select the "C:" drive in the "Look in" box. Search for and delete the following file: efaxview* hotres32.dll, efaxdrv.drv, hotsend.drv.

5. Double-click "My Computer" or "Computer" on the desktop and double-click the "C:" drive. Double-click the "My Documents" folder. Locate the eFax Messenger folder and delete it.

6. Click the Windows "Start" button and click "Run" (Windows XP) or "Start Search" (Windows Vista and 7). Type "regedit" (without quotes) and press "Enter" to launch the registry.

7. Click the "Edit" menu and click "Find" to launch the search tool. Search for and delete the following eFax Messenger entries:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EFAX.COM
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\j2 Messenger
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\j2 Global Communications
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HotSend
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HotSend Email Attacher
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\EFAX.COM
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\j2 Messenger
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\j2 Global Communications
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HotSend
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HotSend Email Attacher
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Send with eFax Messenger
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Send with j2 Messenger

8. Empty the recycle bin and restart your computer to complete the removal process.
