Instructions

    • 1

Draw a large oval in the middle of your paper. Size is dependent on how large or small you want your final art to be, but keep in mind the oval should be large enough to accommodate the animal's face. Draw another oval, slightly smaller than the first, overlapping the lines so that the bottom line of the original oval runs through the middle of the second.

    • 2

Draw an upside-down trapezoid (keep the angles contoured and less angled) attached to the bottom of the second oval, then erase all overlapping lines. You should now have what appears to be a cupcake-like shape in front of an oval. This is the head of your cartoon cat. Draw an upside-down triangle on the top middle of the "cupcake" (the nose).

    • 3

Add two vertical egg-shaped ovals in the middle of the head to make the eyes. Draw a row of three thin triangles on either side of the head, right where the head meets the face. These are part of the whiskers and imply a furry face. Add two triangles on top of the cat's head to make the ears. Draw two smaller triangles inside the ears to give the ears depth.

    • 4

Draw a smile just underneath the nose, then draw an upside-down smile toward the end of the chin. Draw in two vertical lines that connect the smile lines together to make the outline of the mouth. Color in a black dot in the middle of each eye to make the pupils, then make three crescent-shaped lines that jut from the cat's face to make the actual whiskers.

    • 5

Draw four small pointed triangles to represent teeth in the cat's mouth, with two on the bottom and two on the top. Create a tongue in the mouth by drawing a rainbow shape in the mouth, then color in the surrounding mouth area. You should now have a very basic looking cartoon cat face that you can trace in black ink for a kid's coloring project.
