How to Change the Password on a Yahoo Account

Your Yahoo password is your key to all of the services offered by Yahoo, including the Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger features. To protect your personal information and correspondence, it is important to choose a password that is difficult for someone else to guess. If you feel that you need a stronger password, or if you have reason to believe someone else may have your current password, it is a good idea to change your current Yahoo! password.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to your Yahoo account.

    • 2

Click your name in the top left corner, and click “Account Info.” You can also access the Account Info section by clicking your name at the top of other Yahoo pages while you are signed in.

    • 3

Yahoo may ask you to enter your password again. If so, enter it and click "Sign In."

    • 4

      Click “Change Your Password.”

    • 5

Enter your current password and your new password. Enter your new password again as confirmation that you did not type something by mistake.

    • 6

      Click “Save.”

Tips & Warnings

  • A good password should not contain common words or words that are easy to guess. For instance, names of family members or pets are not good choices. Yahoo passwords are case sensitive, and Yahoo recommends users create passwords that use both lowercase and uppercase letters. Add numbers to your password to make it more secure.
