How to Tie the End of a Tube Scarf

Tie the ends of a tube scarf to finish the project.

Both children and adults enjoy creating items using a round knitting loom. When you knit on a round loom, you manipulate loops of yarn on pegs to create rows of stitches that closely resemble knitting created on knitting needles. Even a beginning loom knitter can quickly finish a tube scarf. Once your tube scarf is the desired length, tie the end as you remove it from the loom and your tube scarf will be ready to wear.

Instructions

    • 1

Stop knitting when the tube scarf is the length you desire. Wrap the yarn loosely around the knitting loom three times (for measuring) and cut the yarn so you have a length of yarn that is roughly three times as long as the diameter of the knitting loom. Thread the end of this yarn into the yarn needle.

    • 2

Insert the needle up through the loop of yarn on the peg closest to the point where the yarn extends off from the knitting loom (the first working peg on the loom). Leave this loop on the peg and pull the needle to pull the yarn tightly through the loop.

    • 3

Insert the needle through each loop of yarn on each peg around the knitting loom, pulling the thread tightly each time, until you come around to the starting point. When you reach the starting point, insert the needle through the first loop on the first peg again so you go through this loop twice (at the beginning and end).

    • 4

Slip each loop from each peg to remove the tube scarf from the knitting loom.

    • 5

Pull both ends of the yarn you inserted through each yarn loop to pull the ends of the tube scarf tightly together. If the yarn loops pull tightly closed without a gap, simply tie the ends of the yarn tightly into a double knot. If the yarn loops will not close completely, stitch across the hole several times with the remaining yarn (still on the yarn needle) to close the hole. Tie a double knot after stitching.

    • 6

Hide the ends of the yarn by weaving them into the knitting stitches 2 to 3 inches and cutting off the excess yarn.

    • 7

Cut an 18-inch length of yarn and thread this yarn onto the yarn needle.

    • 8

Insert the needle through each stitch on the other end of the tube scarf (the edge stitches where you cast on to start the scarf). Leave a 6-inch yarn tail at the first stitch and work your way around the entire tube until you reach the starting point again.

    • 9

Pull the two ends of yarn tightly to gather this end of the scarf tightly. Tie the two ends into a double knot, weave the ends of the yarn through the knitting stitches at least 2 inches and clip the ends of the yarn off to finish the scarf.
