How Do I Print Black and White Copies From a Color Printer?

Save

Color ink is expensive but you can save money by printing black and white on your color printer. This is also known as gray-scale printing. This forces the printer to use only the black ink in your color printer. The setting for this is found in your printer's properties as gray-scale printing or as black and white printing. Some software will remember this setting but you may have to set it every time you print when the print dialog window pops up after clicking on print.

Things You'll Need

  • A document or picture to print
  • Click on print in your software. The print dialog box should appear.

  • Choose your printer from the drop-down box at the top of the print dialog. Click on "Properties".

  • Check the gray scale or black and white box. Click "OK".

  • Click "Print".
