How to Switch a DVR on a TV for Dish Network

The Dish Network DVR allows you to record real time programs and movies off your satellite service whenever you please. However, the DVR is built into the actual satellite receiver, so in order to switch out the current DVR, you need to obtain a new satellite receiver. You often need to do this when upgrading your service or when the device functions incorrectly.

Instructions

    • 1

Exchange your DVR at a local Dish Network satellite service facility. If you have contacted Dish Network, a work order has been prepared and you can simply pick up the DVR that is set aside for you. If you have not contacted Dish Network, you can still pick up the new DVR. It will take a few moments for a customer service representative to retrieve the replacement device.

    • 2

Plug the coaxial cable running in from the wall (this directly connects to your satellite dish) into the "In" port on your receiver. Make sure the power to the DVR is off. This reduces your chance of receiving an electrical shock.

    • 3

Attach the RCA a/v cables into the "Video Out" port on the rear of the satellite DVR receiver. Make sure the cable colors match the connection ports.

    • 4

Insert the opposite end of the cables into the "Video In" ports on your television.

    • 5

Power on the Dish Network DVR and your television. Press "Video" on the television and the Dish Network programming appears on the screen.
