How to Create Free Online Crossword Puzzles

If you want to make your own professional looking crossword puzzle, it's easy to do online. You might want to make a puzzle to use as a party invitation or as an activity or game for a family reunion. When you make a crossword puzzle online, you can use the words and clues that you want and the website will then arrange the puzzle for you and present you with a printable copy.

Instructions

1. Visit the Puzzle Maker, Crossword Puzzle Games or Ed Helper websites (see Resources below) to begin making your free online crossword puzzle.

2. Enter the words you wish to use into the blank box that is provided. After each word, you will need to place a forward slash and then type in the clue that you would like to use for that word. Your clues can be up to 255 characters long. Hit the enter key once to go on to the next word. When you have finished entering in all the words and clues, do not hit the enter key after the last one.

3. Type the title of the crossword puzzle in the title box.

4. Use the drop down menus for rows and columns to choose how many of each you would like your crossword puzzle to contain. You can keep the "auto" setting on each one to let the computer program decide for you.

5. Press the "create puzzle" button. Another page will pop up which says "Home page for your puzzle." Click "puzzle" to see your puzzle as a web page and print it out.
