How to Make a Logitech Webcam Work With Yahoo Messenger
A Logitech webcam can have difficulty working with Yahoo! Messenger for various reasons. The most common reasons are webcam incompatibility with Yahoo! Messenger—not meeting image size and/or color requirements, using an old version of Microsoft DirectX graphic's software or using bad and/or outdated webcam drivers. Whether you're having problems with a black webcam screen, freezing windows, sound drops on calls made from Yahoo! Messenger or a "Webcam not found" error message, troubleshooting the most common reasons can typically make a Logitech webcam work with Yahoo! Messenger.

1
Confirm that your webcam meets Yahoo! Messenger webcam image size requirements and supports either 160 by 120 pixels for small images or 320 by 240 pixels for large images. In Yahoo! Messenger, click "My Webcam" on the "Messenger" menu. In the webcam window, click "Webcam" > "Statistics..." to open the Webcam Uploader Statistic page. The image size is under the bandwidth information. In addition, check your webcam user manual or the manufacturer to confirm that the device supports the RBG (RGB24 recommended), 1420 or IYUV image color spectrum. If your webcam isn't compatible, buy a new webcam.

Check that you have Microsoft DirectX version 9.0 or higher on your computer. Open your computer's "Start" and click "Run..." to open the "Run" dialog box. Type "dxdiag" in the "Open: " field and then click the "OK" button. When the DirectX Diagnostic Tool window opens, click the "System" tab and then check your DirectX version on the last line of the "System Information" section. Click "Exit" to close the window when finished. If you don't have version 9.0 or higher, go to the Microsoft DirectX website (See Resources) and follow the instructions to download the latest version to your computer.

Update your Logitech webcam drivers if your webcam still isn't working with Yahoo! Messenger. Go to the Logitech Download Page. Select your webcam using one of the four options available. Click the black "Detect your devices" button to allow Logitech to auto-detect the device, select your device from the "Search by model number" or "Search by model name" drop-down menus or click on the "Webcams" image under "Browse by picture" and then select your specific webcam model. Unless otherwise directed, click "Downloads" on your webcam model's page, select your operating system and then follow Logitech prompts and instructions to update the drivers.
