How to Make Your Own Straight Microphone Stand from Tubing
With the introduction of portable karaoke machines and video games that allow you to build your own rock band, millions of people have become at-home singing sensations. And while all of these devices provide you with a microphone to sing into, very few of them give you a microphone stand. Luckily, building a microphone takes nothing more than some wood and some PVC tubing.
Things You'll Need
- 3/4-inch plywood, 2 feet by 2 feet
- 3/4-inch split "T" PVC pipe
- 3/4-inch PVC screwed to socket adapters, 2
- 3/4-inch PVC pipe, 5 feet long
- 3/4-inch floor flange
- Drill with screwdriver bit
- 1/2-inch wood screws
- Measuring tape

1
Measure 1 foot on each side of your 2 foot by 2 foot piece of 3/4-inch plywood to find the exact center of the wood. Make a mark at this point with your pencil.
-
2
Place the 3/4-inch floor flange on top of the center mark and screw it into the piece of plywood using the drill and 1/2-inch screws.

3
Screw the first 3/4-inch screwed to socket adapter into the top of the floor flange. Make sure you get a tight fit.
-
4
Fit one end of the 5 foot long piece of 3/4-inch PVC pipe into the socket end of the adapter. Fit the socket end of the second screwed to socket adapter.
-
5
Screw the 3/4-inch open "T" into the top of the screwed to socket adapter on top of the 5 foot length of PVC. Place the microphone into the open "T."

Tips & Warnings
The PVC pipe is 5 feet high as this is a good average for most people to use the stand comfortably. If you need it to be higher or lower, just cut your length of PVC pipe to the correct height.
If you are worried about the stability of the microphone stand, you can get the flange in a wider size. Make sure that all of your pipe widths fit that flange or you will not be able to construct the stand.
