How to Install a Nardi Steering Wheel
Nardi is an Italian maker of high-end automobile steering wheels. The company offers wheels in vintage wood designs as well as more modern-looking leather sport wheels. Available for a variety of vehicles, Nardi wheels are a functional and stylish addition to any car’s interior. Like other aftermarket wheels, Nardi wheels are installed with an adapter that is designed for the vehicle that the wheel is being installed in. Installing a Nardi wheel is relatively straightforward with the right tools and approach.

1
Remove the horn button or steering wheel pad so that you can access the larger nut that holds the wheel to the steering column. Horn buttons and steering wheel pads can usually simply be gently pried off with a flat-head screwdriver.
-
2
Disconnect the wires from the back of the horn button that activate the horn when the button is pressed.

3
Remove the large center nut that holds the wheel to the steering column with a socket and ratchet. Use the appropriate-sized socket and an extension on the socket so that you can reach the nut, which is often recessed a few inches. Loosen the nut by turning it counterclockwise. You will want to lock the steering column so that the wheel does not turn as you loosen the nut.
-
4
Pull the steering wheel straight off the steering column. If the wheel is held on firmly, use a steering wheel or gear puller to remove the wheel. A puller has claws that grip the wheel and a center component that presses against the center of the steering column. As you tighten the puller, the wheel should pop off.

5
Install the adapter onto the steering column, routing the horn button wires through the holes in the adapter. Install and tighten the center nut with a torque wrench to the specifications outlined in the workshop manual for your car or according to the directions that came with the Nardi wheel.
-
6
Install the steering wheel onto the adapter with the supplied hardware and tighten the hardware. Attach the horn button wire to the Nardi horn button. You may need to adapt the wire to work with the horn button by cutting, stripping and splicing the wires so that they can fasten to the horn button. Install the horn button.
