How to Change the Spark Plug Wires on a 1995 Camaro

Spark plug wires connect to the the distributor cap or ignition coil and the spark plugs in the engine. The wires transfer the electric current needed to create the spark in the spark plug that ignites the fuel in your car's engine. As part of your maintenance routine, you should change the spark plug wires in your 1995 Camaro after about 30,000 miles of use.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hood of the car and locate the spark plug wires. The spark plug wires are thick rubber with a boot on each end. Your car has six or eight spark plug wires, depending on the type of engine.

    • 2

Remove the first wire from the engine by gripping the boot and rocking it back and forth while pulling it out. Do not pull on the wire itself as you may pull it out of the boot.

    • 3

Follow the wire to the distributor cap or ignition coil, depending on your engine, and remove it using the same rocking motion described in Step 2.

    • 4

Pull the new spark plug wires out of the box and line them up on a flat surface. Notice that all of the wires are a different length. Some spark plug wires have numbers on them.

    • 5

Locate the new spark plug wire that is the same length as the wire you removed from the engine. You can match the number of the wire you removed to the new wire, as an alternative.

    • 6

Push one end of the wire onto the distributor cap or ignition coil and place the other end on the open spark plug.

    • 7

Repeat Steps 2 through 6 with each of the remaining wires.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not remove all of the wires at once as you may confuse their location, which will cause problems with your engine.
