How to Set up a VNC Server in Ubuntu thumbnail
Set up VNC on your Ubuntu computer.

A VNC (Virtual Network Computing) connection allows you to securely connect from one computer to another over a network or Internet connection so that you can remotely administer the computer. Ubuntu's operating system has a VNC server built in, so all you have to do is configure the server and your computer will be ready to accept incoming VNC requests.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Ubuntu computer and log in to the operating system.

    • 2

Click the "System" button, open "Preferences" and then click on "Remote Desktop."

    • 3

Click the "General" tab and then click the "Allow other users to view your desktop" and "Allow other users to control your desktop" check boxes under the "Sharing" section.

    • 4

Check the "Require the user to enter this password" box and then enter a password. The person who logs on to your VNC server will need to enter the password you specify here before they are allowed access.

    • 5

Click the "Close" button to save and apply the settings changes. Your VNC server is now set up.
