Connect external hard drive to your DVR.

The Samsung DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is a device you can use with a cable or satellite receiver and record live programming at any time. You can even program the Samsung device to record content in the future so you never miss any of your favorite shows. However, you can run out of storage space on the hard drive, in which case it is possible to connect an external hard drive to the DVR.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain an eSATA DVR. ESATA is a connection cable that provides faster speeds than both USB and firewire. It provides the appropriate speed to record television programming without freezing and dropping frames.

    • 2

Power off your Samsung DVR and connect the eSATA cable into the eSATA port on the back of the external hard drive.

    • 3

Connect the opposite end of the cable into the eSATA port on the Samsung DVR.

    • 4

Power on the eSATA hard drive and the Samsung DVR. Upon power up the Samsung DVR detects the new hard drive and becomes the default device you record and play off of. If you want to view content on the internal hard drive power down the DVR and disconnect the eSATA drive, then power the Samsung DVR back on.
