How to Program Nissan Altima 2002 Keyless Remotes

Keyless entry was available on S, SE and SL models of the 2002 Nissan Altima. The base model was not equipped with the keyless-entry module, and cannot synchronize with remotes. You can determine which model your Altima is by examining the rear-decklid; the trim level is listed. If the trim is not specified, or if the only badge is "2.5," the Altima does not have the keyless-entry module; programming will not work. When entering programming mode, previously stored codes are erased. You'll need to reprogram previously programmed remotes.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit in your Altima's driver seat. Close the door, and then lock it using the master-switch on the door panel.

    • 2

Insert and withdraw your key from the ignition cylinder six times within 10 seconds. If correctly performed, the vehicle's lights will flash. Make sure you withdraw the key fully each time. If performed too slow or too fast, the Altima will not enter programming mode.

    • 3

Re-insert the key. Turn it to Accessory mode (labeled "Acc" and "2"). Push any button on the remote one time within five seconds of turning the key to Accessory mode. The vehicle's lights will flash, signaling the transmitter has been programmed.

    • 4

Press "Unlock" then "Lock" on the door-panel master switch. Press any button on the next keyless-entry remote you wish to program. The lights will flash again, indicating the transmitter has been programmed.

Repeat this step for each additional remote you wish to program, including previously programmed remotes.

    • 5

Turn the key to "Off" and remove it from the ignition cylinder. Press "Unlock" on the master switch, and then open the driver's door to finish the programming procedure.
