How to Disinfect Laundry Without Using Bleach

You can disinfect laundry with white vinegar.

Clothing quickly collects body oils, dirt and bacteria that leave clothing soiled and in need of disinfection. Liquid bleach is often used on white clothing, and there are some types of bleach that are safe for use on colored clothing. The problem is, bleach contains harsh chemicals that are harmful to you, your family and the environment. Luckily, there is a much safer disinfectant that can be used to clean and kill bacteria, and the main ingredient is most likely already in your home.

Things You'll Need

• Washing machine
• Laundry detergent
• White vinegar

Instructions

1. Turn on your washing machine using your normal wash cycle.

2. Add a capful of your normal laundry detergent, along with 1 cup of white vinegar. The vinegar is a natural disinfectant and deodorizer that will safely kill bacteria and remove any odor associated with the bacteria.

3. Allow the washing machine to complete its cycle. Hang dry the clothing or place it in the dryer.
