How to Use a Wireless USB Network Adapter

A wireless USB network adapter is a device that plugs into the computer's USB port and allows you to connect to a wireless network. This type of adapter can be used on any computer with a USB port. The only requirement is that the device drivers for the adapter must be installed on the computer that it is being used with. The Windows operating system often has a native driver for the adapter, which means no additional software has to be installed.

  • Insert the CD that came with the USB Network Adapter into the computer's CD ROM drive, if the adapter came with one. If there is no CD included, skip to step three.

  • Follow the the instructions to install the drivers for the adapter.

  • Plug the adapter into a USB port on the computer. A "Found new hardware" message will appear in the lower-right corner of the screen.

  • Right-click on the "wireless network icon" in the lower-right corner of the screen.

  • Choose the "View Wireless Networks" option.

  • Choose the network that you want to connect to in the Wireless Network window.

  • Click the "Connect" button at the bottom of the window.

  • Type the network password into the text box and click the "Connect" button, if prompted.
