How to Make a Cancer Head Scarf
Find a head scarf to cover your head while your hair is growing back. You can buy scarves at the store or you can choose to crochet scarves in colors that match or complement your wardrobe by using cotton crochet thread and a steel crochet hook. These scarves are about 36 inches around, allowing plenty of coverage and fabric to create attractive bows when you tie them. You don't have to have cancer to use these scarves--if you suffer from other conditions that cause hair loss, you can make some scarves for yourself.

Find brightly colored crochet thread to make your scarf. Hold strands from each ball of crochet thread together and loosely crochet 231 chains (ch). For row one, begin crocheting one single crochet (sc) into each ch, turn work and crochet one turning ch. Crochet rows two and three as row one. As you're crocheting these rows, take care to crochet each sc loosely in order to give the scarf drape and fluidity.

A steel crochet hook is a simple tool to make your scarf. Crochet one half double crochet (hdc) into each sc for row four. Make sure you crochet each stitch loosely in order to retain the scarf's drape. For row five, continue to loosely crochet one hdc into each hdc and continue this stitch pattern until your scarf reaches about 36-by-36 inches.

Begin loosely crocheting one sc into each hdc. Crochet two more rows of sc into each sc. Measure your scarf and make sure it measures about 36-by-36 inches. Once it reaches this size, fasten off your crochet thread and weave the ends in neatly.

Cut a short length (4 to 7 inches) of crochet thread and lay it along the length of your 5-by-5 inch stiff cardboard. This will be your hanging loop. Wrap several lengths of crochet thread around a stiff piece of cardboard. Cut thread at the bottom of your cardboard and slide all the strands plus your hanging loop off. Tie the hanging loop in the center of the strands to create a tassel. Cut one more strand of crochet thread about 15 inches long and tie this around the tassel strands approximately 1/4 of an inch down from the hanging loop by looping them under the wraps and down the center of each tassel. Make three more tassels and tie one tassel onto each corner of your scarf, using the crochet hook to pull one end of the hanging loop through the corner of the scarf. Neatly cut these strands short.
