How to Remove the Drive From a Toshiba USB Enclosure
Toshiba makes a line of external hard drives that connect to a computer through a USB connection. The actual drive itself is contained inside a case which both protects the drive and provides space for the internal circuitry that allows the drive to function. You may want to remove the drive to replace it or to use it to insert into another enclosure or computer.

1
Disconnect the drive from its USB connection.
-
2
Look for a small seam running down the middle of the sides on the enclosure. This seam is the space between the front and back of the casing. If the drive has rubber guards on each side, slide these off before proceeding.

-
3
Carefully insert the tip of the screwdriver (or blade) in the seam and slide it slowly around the edges.
-
4
Lift the screwdriver (or blade) tip upwards slightly as you move along the seam. The top of the case should begin to pop up. The case may have plastic clips holding the case together. If you hit one of these clips with the screwdriver, push in slightly while continuing to lift the screwdriver tip upwards. As the top of the case becomes loose, use your fingers to grip the top and pull it off.

5
Grasp the side of the hard drive opposite of the green circuit board inside the case. Lift the hard drive up and out of the case. The circuit board segment will come out with the drive.
-
6
Hold the drive in one hand and use your index finger and thumb to grasp the edges of the circuit board. Pull the board straight up and away from the top of the drive until the connector separates.

Tips & Warnings
Reduce the risk of causing electrical damage to the drive or circuits by touching a metal surface other than the drive to discharge static.
Ensure the retractable blade is locked in place in its handle and your hands are clear of the blade during use.
