How to Correctly Vacuum Your Pool Using Your Filter

Regular vacuuming keeps your pool clean.

When your swimming pool needs cleaning, the best way is to power-vacuum it. This will clean away debris and dirt quickly and efficiently. An automatic pool vacuum can utilize the suction of your existing pool filter system. This saves you the trouble of hiring a service to bring in a vacuum system or purchasing a robotic vacuum. Always refer to the pool filter instructions for specific details on your system and how to use it to power your pool vacuum.

Things You'll Need

• Pool vacuum hose
• Pole
• Vacuum head

Instructions

1. Open the waste valve all the way on your pool filter system.

2. Insert the vacuum head into the vacuum pole. Lay the vacuum hose out in a straight line. Attach the swivel end of the hose to the vacuum head.

3. Place the vacuum head, with the hose and pole attached, into the pool. Slowly feed the hose into the pool until the other end of the hose is in the water; water should enter and fill the hose.

4. Move the end of the hose under the water to the skimmer mouth, open the flow control plate and insert the hose into the opening.

5. Vacuum the pool bottom by slowly pushing the vacuum head and hose around the bottom of the pool.

6. Remove the skimmer basket and empty out any debris that flushed out of the vacuum into the basket.

7. Close the waste valve on the pool filter and return the flow control plate in the skimmer to its original position when you are finished vacuuming.
