How to Repair a Turntable Belt
Record collecting is a hobby for some and an obsession for many. This includes maintaining your turntable. One of the most common expenses for an avid record collector is frequently replacing turntable belts. This can be a headache because many times this means hiring a seasoned turntable technician to do this for you. The good news about replacing the belt yourself is that it is cheap and can be done in a matter of 20 minutes.

Disconnect the power cable from the power outlet.

2
Remove the dust cover and rubber pad or mat from the turntable and set it aside.

3
Lift up on the platter with one hand, then lightly tap on the top of the shaft with a hammer. Slide the platter out from the turntable. The platter is the metal, disc-shaped plate that is located beneath the rubber pad.

4
Remove the old belt by pulling on the belt slightly until you can freely remove it from the belt lip. Throw away the old belt.

5
Pour some rubbing alcohol into a clean cloth, and then clean the outside ledge underneath the platter where the old belt was. This will remove debris and dirt and will help the new belt function better and last longer.
-
6
Install the belt by wrapping it around the ledge until it fits snug around the belt lip.
-
7
Reinstall the platter, then place the rubber pad and dust cover over the platter. Plug the power cable into the nearest power receptacle, then test the new belt.
