Cancel a Google Checkout Account

Google Checkout is a payment processing service that is available free of charge to anyone with a Google account. The service makes it easy for online buyers to make purchases without revealing personal credit card information to third-party sellers. Google checkout is also designed to provide Internet store owners with an affordable alternative to traditional merchant accounts. While it is easy to get started with Google Checkout, figuring out how to cancel an account can be a little tricky.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign into the Google account linked with the Google Checkout account. This will enable the account holder to bypass requests for information, tours of Google services, and other non-related information. Once signed into the Google account, navigate to the Google account settings page. On that page there will be a list called "my products" which will include a link to the Google Checkout page.

    • 2

Go to the Google Checkout web page and navigate to the buyer help section. Select the "Account Information" help article. Select the "Account and Verification" article, which is the first article as of this writing. The last paragraph of this article will provide a link to the account closure request page.

    • 3

Verify the first and last name of the account holder along with the associated Google account email address. The email address must be the one linked to the Google checkout account or the help desk will be unable to process the cancellation request. Choose "I'd like to close my Google checkout account" as the issue and submit the form.

Wait for an email response verifying the receipt of your request. This email is usually sent out a few minutes after you submit the cancellation request. A second email confirming that the Google Checkout account has been closed will be sent shortly after the request has been received. The email may include a request for feedback on the Google Checkout system.

Tips & Warnings

  • When completing the second step be sure to only close the Google Checkout account and to not accidentally close the entire Google account.
