How to Replace In-Home Weatherstripping Windows
Place your hand along the bottom of your windows. If you feel a cold air draft, the window weatherstripping needs replacing. A draft like this in every window reduces your home's energy efficiency. Fix this problem with a simple 10-minute project. Replace the weatherstripping on each window to keep the drafts out. It requires very little skill. Things You'll Need
- Pry bar
- Tape measure
- New weatherstripping
- Safety razor
- Hammer
- 1-inch nails

Open the window sash. Insert the pry bar under the edge of the weatherstripping next to the nail that holds it in place. Pry up under the nail that is securing the weatherstripping to remove the entire strip.

Measure the width of the underside of the sash with a tape measure.

Cut new weatherstripping to the length found in step 2 using a safety razor. Dry fit the weatherstripping to the underside of the window sash by holding it into place. Weatherstripping must run to the very end of the sash to keep all drafts out.

Hammer nails on the underside of the weatherstripping to hold it in place. Hammer the nails through the weatherstripping and into the sash board. Hammer two nails into the weatherstripping to secure it under the window.
